Marshalling

CompetitorThe 2007 Rockingham Stages was held on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th December and we were once again looking for volunteers to help with marshalling the rally.

As we were looking for marshals on two successive days we provided free bed & breakfast for a number of marshals who sign on to both days.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who helped make this year's event a success and in particular the marshals who spent the whole day out in the cold and without whom the event would not have run.

A message from the Chief Marshal: -

Dear marshals,

My huge thanks for your sterling work over the weekend. Whilst the weekend was favourable compared to forecast, it was still unpleasant out there - so my many thanks.

The conditions certainly brought out some interesting driving - but with your help we had no major incidents that needed us to stop the stages - the short stoppage on stage 3 was purely precautionary - the conditions, change of direction and the darkness had a number of the top cars leaving the track and ending in the gravel. With that number of crews leaving the stage we felt it prudent to pause proceedings and evaluate the positions of all cars.

I do have a couple of apologies which I vow to change for next year. Firstly, sorry about the confusion on both days regarding the signing on. The caravan I was in hasn’t moved for the previous 4 years - so I was unable to confirm I would be able to use it prior to the event. When crews couldn't find me on the Saturday, I thought a move nearer the gate on the Sunday would help matters - quite the reverse, so my apologies.

Secondly, sorry to those on the Sunday - with my paperwork locked away in the media centre I was "Caught short"! Lesson for next year - ensure I have the paperwork with me the night before!

Anyway, I hope you all an enjoyable Rockingham Stages - and hope to see you in 2008.

My Many Thanks,
Rob Brook
Ps - congratulations to the prizewinners. I'll post their details on-line in the next few days
PPs - If anyone doesn't receive a set of results and wants some, let me know and I'll arrange for a set.

BritSports Experience
Find out why people rave about these super lightweight British Sports Cars.  You will be driving the 120 bhp Caterham 7 and 160 bhp Lotus Elise for 5-6 laps each. After that you will know what it feels like being close to the ground with the wind in your hair and plenty of power.

Mitsubishi Evo Blast
This is a taster drive in one of our Mitsubishi Evo's, giving an experience of these turbo charged four wheel drive rally homologation specials developed for the World Rally Championship. Feel over 300 BHP shoving you back in the seat and what Brembo's finest brakes can do to stop you again as you negotiate our fun track.

We will also be providing free bed & breakfast for a number of marshals who sign on for both days.

Vehicle access for Radio Crews / Marshals

In previous years rumours were circulating among potential marshals and radio crews that they would be unable to take their vehicles onto the circuit and will be bussed to their posts.

While this is true for Race meetings it DOES NOT APPLY to the Rally. All the radio cars and most of the marshals will be able to use their vehicles. There may be a few points where marshals will be unable to park their vehicles and will have a short walk from their cars - but that is no different to any other stage rally. All marshals within the centre of the circuit will have vehicle access to the centre of the circuit.
